You probably heard of the story of the 3 blind men trying to describe an elephant. One touches the tail and describes the elephant as a snake. Another stumbles against the side and describes the elephant as a wall. Yet the other touches the leg and describes the elephant as a tall tree. Similarly in life, what is in front of you is not of as much significance as the angle you are looking from.
Here are some tips to help you look at life from the right angle while nurturing a positive attitude.
1. You see what you are: What you see has nothing to do with what you are looking at but rather with who you are. If you see scarcity and misfortune everywhere you go, perhaps it is because you are holding on to a scarcity and misfortune mentality. If you see opportunities, it is because you have developed an opportunity mindset.
2. Develop an Opportunity Mindset: To develop an opportunity mindset, you must constantly ask yourself one simple question: What great opportunity can come out of my current circumstances? Asking this question presupposes that something good always come with every challenge. And if you occupy yourself looking for that great opportunity within every challenge, you will have very little time to pay attention to the challenge itself.
3. Welcome The Challenge: The more opportunities you start finding within your challenges, the more excited you are going to get about your challenges and the more you will welcome new ones. Once you have conditioned yourself to automatically think opportunities when a challenge arrives, at that point you will have found the right angle from where to look at life from.
4. One More Angle: Regardless of what’s taking place right now in your life you can always find something to be grateful for. Ask yourself: What can I be grateful for in my life right now? Sit down in a quite area and do not get up until you have come up with at least 20 different things you can be grateful for.
5. Become Consumed by Positive Emotions: If your energy can be consumed by either too much excitement or too much hard labor, which one would you choose? Being mentally tired because of searching for something to be grateful for is the equivalent of being tired because of too much excitement…you are tired yet you do not mind it. The more your energy is consumed by positive emotions, the least energy you have for negative ones.
